St.Mary the Virgin, Lewisham Lewisham High Street  SE13 6LE

This year we celebrate 1100 years of life and worship at St Mary’s Church, the heart of the community of Lewisham. A Royal Charter of 918 AD marks the moment when the parish of Lewisham was gifted to the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter’s, Ghent. Princess Elfrida (Aelfthryth), daughter of Alfred the Great, married Baldwin, Count of Flanders.

Julian Watson’s illustrated book tracing the full history ‘St.Mary’s Church Lewisham..’  Is available for purchase.
