The choir leads the singing at several civic functions throughout the year and occasionally joins with other churches for their choral services.  During the Christmas period we raise funds for local charities including the Mayor’s Christmas Fund by singing carols at various venues, this includes a round of the wards at Lewisham Hospital.  Each year our Arts festival provides opportunities to widen our repertoire, commission compositions and perform with many varied musical ensembles.

Our main rehearsal is on Friday evenings at 8pm, generally lasting an hour. We welcome new members including those who feel unsure about their ability to sight-read and are willing to learn.  For more confident singers you are welcome to join the choir for Choral Evensong, without any commitment, on the first Sunday of the month at 6.30pm (check the homepage calendar) with a rehearsal at 5.30pm.

If you are interested and would like more details use our ‘contact’ page to get in touch with our Director of Music Chris Stringfellow

There has been a long tradition of choral singing at St Mary’s for well over 100 years. Choral music is a vital and valued part of the life of our Church.  Our services involve singing at the Parish Mass each Sunday and for a service of choral evensong, usually on the first Sunday of the month. Occasionally we sing for weekday services such as Ash Wednesday, during Holy week and also for carol services at Advent and Christmas.

The choir, are a friendly, dedicated and talented group of voluntary singers drawn together by a love of singing sacred music in its liturgical context.
